60,000 would be the usual size of a honeybee colony at this time of year. I'd be surprised it it were more than one hive. Funny, that they say the few remaining bees will "eventually find a new home". As the queen bees were removed (if it were more than one, I guess the other ones were new queens not reproducing in the hive), they actually won't, it's not in their system to build new hives - just queen bees do that, or rather, they make worker bees do it via pheromones. No queen bee - no new hive. Sorry to say, but they just gonna die...
