moving

I'm kind of in a constant flux of moving, being that I don't have a home, just a place I stay.

I began this moving about 3 years ago, after living in the same place for 19 years.

When I was a kid, my father was regular army and moving every few years, or sooner, was a normal experience. I went through five different elementary schools in three states.

As kids, we didn't mind moving so much. We lived in a trailer and most of our belongings were just packed up and left in the trailer for moving (yes, you do generally want to keep things from moving around in the trailer while it is being hauled). Moving was kind of fun as it was a new place, new friends, new school; and I could always lie about having been the coolest guy at my old school and get away with it (well, since I got away with it so much, maybe I was ).

When I was in 4th grade in another county (Laurel) in this state, John and I were classmates and bullied the rest of the 4th grade. I've mellowed so much since then; couldn't you just imagine what kind of bullying a$$hole ( ) I could have become if I hadn't mellowed?




Moving every few years as a child can be fun, but gathering up years of memories can be a pain; especially when you have nowhere to put it all and have to make decisions as to what goes or stays. Even if after a few years, once you get settled in, moving is no fun; an adult back just doesn't have that spring in it anymore.


Good luck in the move. Hopefully it finds you some place that you will eventually call home, and want to call home.

Sad to lose a fellow Tennessee b-movie fan, but the truth is I will probably be moving within the next year to Savannah, GA. I've lived for five years in a very rural area (closest neighbor is about half a mile away) and am ready to get back to having more folks around, but do not want to move back to Nashville - so naturally my solution is to move 500 miles away! Looking for a new job will be my biggest stress, since I've been at my present job for almost 16 years.

On the plus side - Going from a 7 hour trip to the beach to a 20 minute trip to the beach! Tybee Island rocks!

Indeed, Tybee Island is very cool.  It's my kind of place - awesome beach, very little crowd/traffic.

Also, you won't be far from Beaufort, SC.  If you are not familiar with Beaufort, it's worth a look.  Small, very friendly historical town.  There's a TON of both American Revolution and Civil War history in the Savannah/Beaufort area.  Just around the corner from Beaufort is Hunting Island State Park...also worth a look if you want a change from Tybee's beaches.

The slick tourist brochures made a bit afraid it was going to be really polished and upscale but when I saw that giant plastic (and very photogenic!) great white shark I knew I was in my element. It reminded me of Key Largo when I lived there - back in the early 90's.
