Police Chief Accidentally Shoots Self

The Middletown police chief is recovering from a gunshot wound.

Monroe police say Chief Greg Schwarber accidentally shot himself in the leg at his home on Todhunter Road Friday afternoon.

The Chief said he was teaching his daughter about gun safety and shooting technique shortly before the accident.

Schwarber told police that he was cleaning his Glock .45 and did not realize the gun was still loaded when he accidentally shot himself.

He was taken to the Atrium Medical Center for treatment of the wound just above his knee.

I've known several people that have accidentally fire a gun, two of them shooting themselves, one was an MP, one was a correctional officer, and one was a policeman. The other two were just knuckleheads. One was an old boss of mine that shot himself through the calf with a .45 long colt. He said it was "That drunken, psychotic, gun-fondling thing". After all, what are guns without alcohol? Just a loud, boring BANG I guess. .
