BioShock is one of the all time best video games in recent history and if you played it, you know why.  Tough moral choices, amazing visuals, intense moments, shock values, an engaging plot, and a huge surprise twist.  This is one of the best video games out there in recent years.  Now, I have been hearing that there is in the works or at least the license to the game as been handed out to Universal Studioes for a movie adaption.  Bells and whistles are already going off in my mind, but they have been slightly quieted when I heard who the director and writer was.

The director is Gore Verbinski.  He directed all the Pirate of the Caribbean movies and The Ring.  The writer is John Logan, the guy who wrote The Aviator, Gladiator, Sweeny Todd, and for you B-movie fans, Bats.  So I am little happy that it sounds liek BioShock has a somewhat decent chance at being ok, but with looking at history of video game movies, I am not too sure.  Anyways, what's your thoughts on if this will or will not be a good movie.

BioShock is an awesome game.
When I play through most games, I only play through once, beat it and then trade it in for a different game.
I played all the way through to the end of BioShock three times!  It was that good!
And I never had the heart to trade it in.  I'm considering going through it a fourth time because I haven't played it in months.

I have high hopes for a BioShock movie.  The only thing I worry about is how writers and studio execs can't leave the original story alone and feel the need to tinker with and change things around.
Kind of like how they did in "Doom".
If they had just left the original game story intact, it would've been an awesome movie.  But no.  They had to dick around with the original story.
Hopefully they won't do that with BioShock.

Well if we are playing the odds on video game movies... Bad.

A well-plotted video game has the makings of a good movie. Of course, I said the same thing about Doom.

Bottom line: If they just adapt it, should be good. If they screw with it, it'll suck.

It'll be bad, very bad, it's almost a guarantee.

And for the game, I thought it was great, until I was just over 1/2 way through and realized I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over and over. . It got monotonous after a while. I did like some of the weapons though,  that was cool.
Raw bacon is GREAT! It's like regular bacon, only faster, and it doesn't burn the roof of your mouth!

It has the potential to be amazing but I'm guessing it will suck. sigh.... :drink: :drink:

I suppose it has a chance, I mean, there's a chance I might find a bag of money at the end of my driveway this morning.  But odds are that it will really suck.

I do expect good things from BioShock. True... Most video game movies aren't very good at all...

DOOM
Super Mario Bros.
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
Double Dragon
Final Fantasy

Uhhh... You get the idea... But there are some good video game movies out there. At this time I'm expecting more from VGM type productions. Not all of them are bad.

Before Bioshock they need to make a Half-Life movie. AND MAKE IT GOOD!   :tongueout:
