I remember liking this movie a lot when it first came out in the mid 90s.
Computers and computer tech in general was really coming into its own around that time.

I just finished watching Hackers about 10 minutes ago after not having seen it in at least 10 years, and man, this movie stinks!
It has not held up well over the years.

Listening to the characters talk about dated computer specs now is downright hilarious.
Ohhh...a 28.8 modem with 5k of RAM!
Back then, that was state of the art.  Nowadays, it's a joke.

Even the way the characters dressed was laughable.  Most of them wear skin tight clothes that no one I know would ever wear...or ever did wear in the mid 90's.
Most of them are very effiminate looking.  I realize that they're hackers and are trying to be different, but they end up looking downright silly in this movie.
Anjelina Jolie looks like she's high as a kite throughout the entire film, and Johnny Lee Miller's accent comes through in some scenes.
I just felt that the casting was particularly bad overall.

This movie is bad, bad, bad!  As in, not good!

What do you think?

I've Seen The Movie Twice Within The Last Year And I Think It's Pretty Good ,

And As For Angelina Jolie.....I Think This Is One Of The Few Good Movies She Has Ever Been In.......

........But You're Probably Right About Her Being High :teddyr:

.....By The Way , Did Anybody See Marc Anthony (jennifer lopez's husband)

I always kinda liked this movie.  Sure, it's dumb, but it never takes time to really let the stupidity gel.  Okay, maybe the swimming pool scene went a little long, but you got to Ms. Jolie wet, so.....

But, yeah, compared to what you see in movies now, it is terribly simple-minded.  And what we think is cool today will look simple-minded in twenty or thirty years from now.  I think this movie could stand a remake, but I doubt you could get away with making a movie with "hackers" as heroes in this day and age. Still, it would be nice to see a movie that makes it clear that "hackers" (people who are curious and like to discover how and why things work) are one type of person and what they used to call "crackers" (people who learn how to use things to destroy and damage people and things) are a different sort.

I love this movie.  It is a classic to me.  I've seen it 100 times and I'll watch it another 100 times lol.  I'm an IT guy so I am a sucker for computer related movies.  Definitely not the most realistic computer movie but I do like the actors and cheesy story.  "My BLT drive on my computer just went AWOL"  :tongueout:

This is the one where Angelina shows her boobs or is in the second?

Well that had a disgusting 90s charm, back when the Internet was in its absolute youth.

Those guys are the original Anonymous.

And we will talk no more on that subject.

The thing I remember most is when the movie came out someone "hacked" the official movie web site, and did all sorts of shenanigans to it :bouncegiggle: We have this on DVD, but I haven't watched it in many years, might be time to view it again.
