The Burgomaster

I bought this DVD at least a year ago and finally got around to watching it.  And it's really putrid.

This movie was directed by William Beaudine (who doesn't get mentioned nearly enough in this forum . . . he probably directed more bad movies than any other director).  At least his very similar JESSE JAMES MEETS FRANKENSTEIN'S DAUGHTER was funny enough to be worth watching.  BILLY THE KID VS. DRACULA is mostly boring.

John Carradine plays a feeble, not-very-scary vampire with a goatee and a top hat.  Whenever he's about to vampirize someone, a red light flashes on his face making him look more like the devil than a vampire.  Chuck Courtney (who appears to nearly fall off his horse a couple of times) is the clean-cut, good guy (????) Billy the Kid.

I found it amusing . . . in fact I laughed . . . when Carradine growled a few times ("Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!")

***Spoiler (as if you really care)***
The funniest part of the movie is at the end when Carradine gets shot numerous times without even flinching.  Then Billy throws a pistol, hitting Carradine on the head and knocking him unconscious (:bouncegiggle:)!  Billy moves in quickly with a long scalpel () supplied by the local doctor and drives it through the vampire's heart.

And here is a clip of this spoiler:

I did an IMDB search on the prolific Mr.Beaudine-his carrear dated back to 1903!!!

He started directing in 1915!!!! No wonder his syle was so old fashioned!

He did these Lugosi films:

the APEMAN
GHOSTS ON THE LOOSE
VOODOO MAN (also with Carradine)
BELA LUGOSI MEETS a BROOKLYN GORRILA

...along with many other horror genre films, and lots of Bowery Boys films!

And he did the classic Mary Pickford film (listed in Wiliam K. Everson's book CLASSICS of the HORROR FILM - SPARROWS-(1926)
