An SA video company is offering this for sale and I can't find any info about it anywhere, not even the IMDB has it.

Has anyone seen it, is it perhaps a mash up of Zombie and Cannibal Holocaust or what is it?

Help!!

My guess is somebody took some old loser movie everyone would avoid like the plague if it was released under its real name and retitled it to make it look like something new.  They used use this tactic all this all the time, rereleasing old movies under new names to grindhouses, drive-ins and VHS.  That, or its an amateur homemade-for-video production.  I bet whatever it is only goes under that title in SA.  I'd say your best bet is to contact the company offering it for info.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

I did some research, It seems "Zombie Cannibal Holocaust" is only available in South Africa.

But I think what the Rev said, makes more sense though.

Well if you do buy it, let us know how it was.

:buggedout: I thought that might be the case.

I know the company that's releasing this DVD and among their success stories are:

1. They usually copy used 16mm prints to a master tape without checking the aspect ratios first ~ they did this with Anthony M Dawson's Tiger Joe which was shot in cinemascope. Result? Everyone on a severe diet, even the M16 rifles they use are smaller than pee shooters.  :buggedout:

2. Their covers don't always tell the truth about what's inside.

3. They sometimes combine different series of films to make one whole series. The three Delta Force films in 1986, 1991 and 1993 are combined with the Operation Delta Force films that were mostly made in SA as from 1997, making a grand total of eight films.  :buggedout:

Thanks for the help, Venomx and Rev: I will try and track it down and like a good soldier of bad movies, I shall return and report.  :drink:

I'm guessing they don't list any cast members?  Another bad sign.  If they do list cast members you could narrow it down on IMDB that way.

This is the DVD sleeve or "amaray" from www.kalahari.net:

This still doesn't tell me much about it, unfortunately.  I wish I could see the sleeve's backside..........urrghhh, that's a horrible image.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

Cover actually isn't too bad.  Not really an indicator of anything at all.  It's pretty cheap based on the currency calculator I'm looking at.  I say go for it!

I can't buy it online (no credit card unfortunately) but I will track it down sooner or later.  The image on the cover reminds me of this one from Lucio Fulci's Zombie:

Not the same but very similar indeed. If I'm lucky and this is a retitled Zombie, it would be appropriate that I used Dr Menard's image hosting service to post this image here.  :teddyr:

It sound like a repackaging of Zombi Holocaust (which already is known by about a million different names). The run time seems right, the fact it has a shady history of not being released uncut in several regions sounds right.

To be honest it seems kind of shady, though I defiantly would get it if I saw it cheap somewhere, ie a hock shop or something. Wouldn't go out of my way to, or pay shipping costs for it.

Thanks, Thorn ~ so I might possibly be getting a copy of Dr Butcher MD? Not bad.

Have you seen that one before?  It's pretty funny doing a double bill of that with Zombie, due to the obviously reused sets and locations.

Trevor

I found it on my birthday, believe it or not.  :teddyr:

ThornIs was right ~ it's a retitling of Mario Girolami's Zombie Holocaust aka Dr Butcher MD. Not bad all things being considered, shocks galore and lots of gore ~ a lot of unintentional humor as well ~ and the leading lady looks great without her clothes.

The one thing that bothered me was that the only things about the zombies that were zombified were their faces and not the rest of them.  :buggedout:

Could this thread be moved to the 'Solved' section?
