The Burgomaster

This horror comedy is like a cheap, irritating soap opera with some gore.

After his death, Christopher Dean's (John Carradine) adult sons, daughters, and servants gather in his mansion for the reading of the will.  His attorney plays a tape with the old man's voice saying his children and servants will all be eligible for part of his fortune if they stay in the house for a week.

All the characters are annoying and dysfunctional.  One of the servants (Igor . . . played by Buck Kartalian!) enjoys being beat with a cane (he has purple bruises and scars on his back).  Another character says, "A kraut stuck a bayonet in me, so I made a lamp out of him."  His room is decorated with Nazi memoribilia, including the skull lamp!

Gore scenes include a decapitated head in the fridge, a dead body in a fish tank with most of the flesh eaten off, and a guy being stung to death by bees (his face is lumpy and bloody).

John Carradine is in the movie for only about 5 minutes.  The rest of the movie is padded with scenes of B-Movie actors like Faith Domergue, Jeff Morrow, and Merry Anders bickering, conniving, and lamenting.

The ending is so stupid and annoying that you'll want to throw the DVD down on the pavement and jump on it with heavy boots.  If you MUST watch it, you can find it in Mill Creek's DRIVE-IN CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK.

I think I've got this on some 10 movie pack.  If memory serves, I never made it to the end.

Another classic piece of crap!  I loved the part where he makes the crack about making the lamp out of the Kraut.  I almost wet myself when that happened.  I backed it up and played it about six times in a row.  My girlfriend at the time wanted to kill me.

How can you NOT love this movie?

And it gets lumped in with Andy Milligan's films because he made a film with the same story line and the same title.

Actually, this film goes by BLOOD LEGACY as well.  It is as confusing of a mess as the movie itself.

RC, you will love this movie.

Burgo, you hit the nail on the head with this one: this is a gothic Italian horror without the gothic elements or the horror - plus it's made in the wrong country!

So, what does it have going for it?

Sleaze.

Period.

No wonder this has not been dissed only by Cinematic Titanic but by Elvira herself!  Double trouble!

And what can you say about a horror movie where THIS is the scariest shot of the whole thing?

Nothing good, to be sure.

BTW: until this movie, I had no idea how buff the ruling Khan from Gymkata used to be!  Good for you, Buck!
