HELP! 70/80's HORROR: COUPLE IN POSSESSED FOREST, JEEP ESCAPE FAILS?

ALL I REMEMBER:  A couple go to the forest in a Jeep.  Things get weird and spooky.  I think the forest itself becomes possessed.  They try to leave in Jeep but the forest kills them?  Can't really remember.  I think the guy dies first, and then the woman tries to escape in the Jeep; I remember green slime and/or red stuff smeared across the front wind shield, and the woman screams because the forest is trying to kill her and she can't see...
Anything would help.

Could this be a partial memory of either "Evil Dead" or "Evil Dead 2?"  The second is pretty much a remake of the original.  The spirits that lived in the forest tended to make motorcycle sounds and zip along the ground as they chased the people.

A woman in the story has a close, personal encounter with a possessed tree.
