It was twenty years ago today (1 December 1989) that the National Film Archives of South Africa first opened its' doors to a 22 year old, wearing a pair of 100 year old underpants.  :buggedout:

I cannot believe that I have been here since then and that my childhood hobby has actually become my job, my bread and butter (or actually, my bread and a little bit of butter).

I look forward to the next 23 years when both me and my undies will go on pension  :teddyr:

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far~ ruminations

Congratulations Trevor!  Twenty years can go by so quickly when you are doing what you enjoy.  They must appreciate you: clearly the underpants have not been an issue!

They have been, they have: no one will do outreach film screenings with me!  :twirl:

200 years from now, archaeologists will dig up the remains of the film archive, open a film can, and find a pair of soiled underpants.  And they will wonder about the significance of this discovery for many years . . .

If our air conditioners were still somehow working, those underpants would have been frozen solid and would need a blowtorch applied to bring back their unique aroma.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

Thanks ~ it is quite a cool job. The pay's not great but it is an interesting job. If it weren't an interesting job, I would have quit long ago.
