I don't see what the point of him even having the bat symbol on the new suits is if the lighting has to be just perfect in order to even see the dang thing.

Exactly.

I haven't seen the Dark Night, but yeah, he does look like he should be in a video game wielding a plasma rifle.

I don't really care for it myself. I mean it looks way too padded. Granted I know he sometimes wore body armour in the comics and in the cartoons but well, he looks more like Bat-Iron Man here to me that Batman. Prefer the suit from the Burton films quite a bit but I don't consider that even as good as it could have been.

The modern comic books allow for batman to wear armor.  I think its fine, he's a gadget driven superhero.

I hated it because it made Christian Bale's face look squished.

Maybe it's just me, but the Bale costume makes him look less like a Batman and more like a kitty cat.

If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

If you don't like Batman's modern duds,  then check this out for something different.

His suit has alien powers so I can't really blame them.

This does actually seem like an idea worth trying. As Sleepyskull pointed out, when translating many superheroes to live action, you seem to have a choice between generic cool or faithful camp. It's the medium of comics and the skill of the artists that make a brightly-coloured spandex suit look heroic. On a real actor, the Wolverine suit would look like something out of a pride parade, no matter how well designed it is. Using CGI seems like it might allow for some of that visual artistry that makes it work on paper. And in Green Lantern's case, the suit is generated by the power of his ring, so it kind of lends itself to this method.

Not that I'm a fan of CGI in general, but when it can address something that traditional methods haven't done well, I think it can be a valuable tool.
