I haven't seen a movie that made me feel like this since"The Other" (1972). Definately a "what the f**k?" movie.  Not as in avant garde or bad. something about is just crazy and not right in way thats sort of hard to explain. Like the actors or the writers or both are actually insane.

Even for the 70's the suspension of disbelief and confusion factor is way up in the red. An attactive american husband wife architect team gets hired to do something in England. When they get there they get in an accident and the person who hits them is very sorry but he seems kind of sinister too.

slight spoiler:

(This guy is either the person who hired them, a hologram, Satan or all three I have no idea.)

(wouldn't you have talked to the guy who hired you?  )

The guy invites them to recouperate at his gigantic estate and his rich fur coat wearing weirdo friends show up via helicopter and it's all very colorful. The house is fancy and there is this amazing indoor pool and the hot one of the rich friends goes swimming in it. Then people start getting killed and the house's secrets are revealed.

It felt like a clumsy horror cash in clumsily crossed with a gothic romance. If you like stuff like "neither the Sand nor the Sea" definately check it out. I think both are very malarkeyful

Also worth noting: the music could not be less appropriate. The cheesy main theme song makes it seem like it's going to be more of a love story. Even the incidental music is wrong. Someone tries to escape from a killer by snagging a horse, and they play this romantic horse riding music and the guy is smiling. You just escaped being murdered and you are leaping over fences and having a ball riding this nice mare what is wrong with you?

movie itself 3.75 / 5

WTF rating 5/5

in retrospect, some of it makes some sort of demented sense I guess

edit: also Roger Daltrey is in it!

I actually saw this on the big screen. I remember the pool scene getting a big reaction from the audience. I still need to track down the DVD because its been ages  :bluesad:

I saw this on the big screen too.  And I bought the DVD within the past year or so.  I think this movie is stunningly terrible.  Especially the "special effect" where the guy is on fire.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

I love THE OTHER, although, it does take 2 or 3 viewings to understand some of it.  Years after I saw the movie I read the novel.  The novel also gives you some insight into what's happening.  It's sort of like reading a super-weird version of Ray Bradbury's DANDELION WINE.

Now that intrigues me!  Gonna have to find a copy.

Wait.  So the movie isn't about a monster that's just a cat head attached to a severed human hand?  What a rip!

I saw The Legacy a long time ago and it was pretty good.
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.
