A New Way to Watch Bad Movies With Friends

I got a premium movie channel service from my cable company which has a website which I rather enjoy one feature you can do on it.
The channel is called EPIX and they happen to have a way a subscriber can invite up to 5 people to watch a movie with them online free. The person who subscribes to EPIX gets to pick 5 people they know and send out invites so their friends can join them in watching the movie they selected and can chat with each other during the film. So far I have yet to try that part to see if it the invites are limited to just the US or can be sent anywhere in the world.
I can say that the selections on their website range from films from last year and older, some titles are decent but they also have a lot of bad movies (both the fun kind and the ones you wonder why you ever considered watching). Two films I watched earlier tonight on it were Land of the Minotaur and Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde. I had a blast watching both. For those of you who can order this service, it is something you may want to consider. Who knows, once I get the hang of it, might have a small bad movie watching party. And sorry if I sounded like a commerical for this, just excited over being able to invite some friends online to enjoy a movie with me.

No, you can watch a movie online and send friends an invite to join you to watch the same movie online with you is how it works. You and your friends will have a chat room set up for you to chat with each other while watching the movie. The movie will run at the same time for everyone you invite. So say you are watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show with some friends. You will all be seeing the same scene at the same time no matter if your friends joined you at the start of the film or logged in to it 5 minutes prior to that scene.

meQal - I think you should just invite us all over to watch bad movies.

Ha!  I had an idea to do this once.   :teddyr:

I threw the idea out there once (half seriously).  I'm just afraid of what some of the folks in this forum are like in real life (shudder) . . .

Currently I am trying to see what sort of restrictions and limits are with this service. I want to know how many of these invites I can send out in a month and if it is limited to just the United States for who can access the movie via a friend's invite. So far I have not gotten an answer on either of these questions. I have searched their website's Terms of Service and FAQ sections, both are pretty vauge on that subject.
My cable provider has several conflicting sets of info on how that service works. Talked with 3 different people about it and got 3 different answers. One kept trying to tell me answers which had nothing to do with my questions, another told me it was a limited time promotion which had expired despite the fact it is one of the main selling points for the service and still offered. The last one I talked with said the they did not know how it really worked because they were not supplied with a lot of details. I do suspect it may be simular to Netfilx's service of the same because in my quest to find these answers, I did find an article which stated that EPIX had started being the company that provided this service for Netflix. Just not taken the time to follow up on that to find out if that was true or not.
As far as people on the this board, I'm not really worried because we got some decent people here. I will be honest to admit that those who get an invite will be divided between those who are regulars here that I know and regulars of another site which I frequent as well. This is another reason I am wanting to find out my monthly limit on who I can invite.

I finally got a answer back from EPIX about the limits of there online service. Sadly, those of you outside the US can not see the movies on their site. Some sort of limitation they impose on it. They did say this may change in the future as they make their services available in other nations. This is the only part that sucks about this. There is no limit how many times I can run their movies with friends online inside the US however. I can invite only 4 people at a time (5th spot I found out was for the host of the film which is me) nor is there a limit on the number of times in a month that I can invite the same friends.
