Not the first time a major news outlet has fallen for a prank, and it certainly won't be the last.

Mind you, it's gotten worse since they're pressured to chase stories that will get the most ratings right now. It tend to lead to reporters/researchers feeling rushed and trying to turn in whatever they have at the deadline whether or not it's been properly researched/investigated.
