I always tell the "OHMYGODKILLIT!" insect-phobes mantises are an endangered species and there is a hefty fine for killing one, just to keep down the squashed mantis numbers. That usually buys me time to rescue the would-be squashed mantis and take it to safety.

I hope they remember that when they take over and become our cruel overlords.
