Forgot to mention it earlier, but thanks for your informed response to my blithe comments, AndyC. They were quite informative, which I always appreciate.

No problem. Before I actually had to study up on this stuff, I would have said much the same thing. It can seem kind of counterintuitive at first, making someone feel like they belong by acknowledging that they're different. But they know they're different, so it's better that they become comfortable with it, and learn to take pride in it.
