Might have been a horror movie

I'm sorry it's so vague, but all I really remember is that there is a girl and she's running from something or someone (her parents maybe?) She is friends with this cop (I think he's blond) and they fall in love or something.

There's a hotel or run down motel or something too.  Maybe she works there?

I think it's from the 80's or 90's.   

I don't think I even liked the movie I just can't get rid of the useless memory of it until I remember what it was called.
