I KNOW it's coming....any day now, the CW will take this program completely off the reservation, and turn it into another trash-opera, a'la SMALLVILLE, but I keep watching....

Why couldn't they simply do the story of Oliver Queen, without turning the canon into applesauce?
If it's true what they say, that GOD created us in His image, then why should we not love creating, and why should we not continue to do so, as carefully and ethically as we can, on whatever scale we're capable of?

The choice is simple; refuse to create, and refuse to grow, or build, with care and love.

I haven't seen Arrow yet, but I've read some interviews by the creators. They couldn't go five minutes without saying something to the effect of "We're looking at the Nolon films" or "We love the realistic superhero take that The Dark Knighthad...."  They never seemed shy about saying they were just trying to bring Batman Begins to the small screen, just with a different hero in the title.

And I will partially defend Smallville. While it started out as a typicall CW drama-some of the later seasons were enjoyable. The creators learned that going too far away from the source material wasn't bringing in the large fan base that it needed. LAter season, they allowed it to be more comic book-esque and brought in other DC heroes and villains.   It still wasn't great, but at least they weren't afraid to admit they were based on comics.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...
