Thanks Andy.

So if on my shelf the 'A's go:
ABBA-AC/DC-Susan Aglukark-The Arrogant Worms-The Alan Parsons Project-America-The Animals-April Wine-Artists Against Apartheid-Rick Astley

and the 'B's go:
B-52's-B.T.O.-Joan Baez-Long  John Baldry-The Beachboys-The Beatles-BeeGees-Belafonte-George Benson-Chuck Berry-Black Sabbath-Blind Guardian-Blondie-Blood Sweat and Teers-Blue Oyster Cult-Blue Rodeo-Blues Brothers-The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band-Pat Boone-David Bowie-Jackson Browne

in the 'D's you'll find:
Chris de Burgh-Neil Diamond-Def Leppard-Dire Straits-The Dirt Band-The Doors-Bob Dylan

and the 'G's include;
Genesis-Grateful Dead-Great Big Sea-Gregorian Chants-Godspell

the 'I's  are:
Billy Idol-INXS-The Irish Rovers and Iron Butterfly

Carole King sits near The Kinks; Janis meets Scott; Cyndi Lauper and John Lennon bracket Led Zeppelin, followed by Gordon Lightfoot, Little Richard and Lynyrd Skynyrd; Midnight Oil sits next to Glenn Miller; Joni Mitchell meets The Monks and Nana Mouskouri; Ann Murray is near The Nylons, Sinead O'Connor and Roy Orbison; Oscar Peterson meets Pink Floyd; Robert Plant sits next to The Platters, The Pointer Sisters, The Police, Procol Harum and Queen; and The Rolling Stones and Paul Revere and the Raiders bracket The RHPS soundtrack; Carly Simon is followed by Showdown, which leads to Steppenwolf...and so on.

(I am leaving out the classical, Broadway musicals, musical humour (where DOES one put Gilbert and Sulllivan?) and pipe bands because they are on a different shelf) - then maybe I can legitimately claim some diversity?  Cool!
"May I offer you a Peek Frean?" - Walter Bishop
"Thank you for appreciating my descent into deviant behavior, Mr. Reese." - Harold Finch

While my tastes tend to skew more towards the heavier subgenres of metal , I've also got a fair bit of classical, baroque, celtic, etc. on my regular playlist. I have no objections to listening to most genres if I'm hanging out with someone who wants to listen to something else. Except gangsta rap. I just can't stand the sound of that particular genre.

You couldn't even pin down exactly what I like to listen to.  My music taste is all over the place.  It be hard to explain it, but here are a couple of my favorite songs:

This Afternoon by Nickelback
Viva La Vida by Coldplay
Blame My Friends on the Other Side (Soundtrack to Princess and the Frog)
Back in Business (Soundtrack to Dick Tracy)
Swing, Swing, Swing
Hey Soul Sister by Train
Rooftops by Lostprophets
Footloose by Kenny Loggins
Play With Me by The Thompson Twins
Wake Up by the Arcade Fire
When I'm Gone by Enimen
Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz
Word Up by Gun
Combine Harvester by The Wurzels
Pjanoo by Eric Prydz
Carmelldansen
It's Tricky by Run DMC
Jai Ho by the p***ycat Dolls
Bohemian Rhaspody by Queen
Mother Russia by Sisters of Mercy

I could go on, but you get the point.  I'm just all over the map.

We live in quite an interesting age. You can tell someone's sexual orientation and level of education from just their interests.
