Weirdest Movies Ever, and Why We Should Watch

Beyond Dreams Door was a movie I tried to like but knew deep down I could not. It's like if you took rush or Genesis and made one of their songs into a movie. I'm more of a Sleepaway Camp type person idk

Surrealism in general is I think just ugly as a style. The Magritte painting with the British guy with the apple in front of his face, Salvador Dalis melting whatever. They are like doodles

Not sure if mentioned before, but Skinned Deep (2004) is worth checking out. Only found a German dubbed Trailer

For some reason, I dreamed about Manos last night, most notably the portrait of the master.

It reminded me, people will be quick to proclaim Manos as the "worst movie ever", I big to differ. Oh sure, it's poorly made and has almost NO budget, but for me there seems to be some eerie surreal atmosphere to it. The poorly-positioned shots combined with the dark locations and jazzy music score (especially during the end credits) create a feeling that I haven't gotten in any other bad movie out there. So while it is painful to sit through, I do think the whole surrealism of the thing saves it a little.

Still, it easily competes with Monster-a-Go-Go for worst film of 1966, even though I think the latter is way worse.

I used to spend hours scouring the local video store for weird movies.

One that changed the game for me:



This movie was dark, weird, and disturbing. It was one of the most enthralling things I had seen up to that point. This was in the mid-90's, weird movies used to be much harder to find.

So here's a movie I found in the not-so-ventured part of my video store. Loved it, and it kept me up on my continuing quest to find good stuff that shows up on nobody's radar. Now it's kind of easy to find good weird stuff, but in those pre-internet days, these gems were few and far between.

I've seen it since, and it's not quite as good as I remember it, I still remember it as that one movie that convinced me to try and find the weird stuff, because they can be life-changing. I'm not afraid to say I love populist films, but I'm always on the lookout for that new film that is different than everything else.

So, weird movie, seeking out The Reflecting Skin is worth your time. It has Aragorn in it.

I haven't seen this yet, but judging by the trailer and the pics I've seen of it, The Boxer's Omen looks like it has some real face-melting potential.

Nukie: An ET rip-off set in South Africa. It's meant to be a children's movie, but from my experience, the alien costumes in Nukie always create the same reaction in its viewers: utter horror. But that's really not even starting to really describe Nukie - the movie has so many bats**t crazy things going on. There's a bizarre amount of alien torture right off the bat, talking monkeys, a scientist who wants to be a clown, and for some reason there's an AI with a maniacal laugh, who's by far the best character in the movie.
