He was part of the dynamic duo that ran/owned Cannon Films. His output speaks for itself. Here are some highlights (for me) from his long and varied resume.

He helped produce some horribly cheesy, but usually fun, movies in the early part of the 1980s.

He directed one of my favorite disasters:

He co-produced Tobe Hooper's amazing LIFEFORCE.

His company, Golan-Globus, distributed the arthouse fantasy THE COMPANY OF WOLVES, which is one of my favorite overlooked movies:

I've got to thank him for 3 films that enriched my life, if nothing else.

RIP Menahem Golan.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Considering his wonky track record in South Africa's film industry - not paying his casts or crew, etc - and my non-cruel nature, I don't quite know what to think or say here.

That's a bummer. I was in high school during Cannon's mid 80s glory years and if you were in the video store looking for cheap thrills, you  usually couldn't go wrong with anything that had a Cannon logo on it.

Coincidentally, my sons and I had just finished watching Cannon's silly-but-fun "Indiana Jones" knock-off, "King Solomon's Mines" with Richard Chamberlain on the night I heard the news about Mr. Golan.

I saw a couple of the "Missing in Action" and "Death Wish" sequels in theaters back in the day as well. To this day, whenever I see the Cannon logo at the start of a movie, I get a warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling.

Thanks for the B-Movie memories, sir.

He made movies his way: boldly, baldly, and badly, but the movie world would be a lesser place without them.

R.I.P. Menahem. You will be missed.
