Seeing it in the cinema as a child was awesome and horrifying.  I can still remember the men having the brain slug dropped into their helmets, and the things crawling into their ears!  Ack!  That memory stayed with me for years and years; the only other thing I remember is Khan yelling, 'Fire aft torpedoes!'
