It's not just America- extremism,nationalism, racism is happening everywhere. But it always has been.

I often wonder Myself, but then, I didn't really start to learn the true impact of racism until they started teaching it to us in school in order to convince us that it didn't exist anymore, & that we had evolved past that as a society, and then I started noticing my classmates of every ethnicity becoming racist.....

I have an aunt who generally is a good person, she has always looked out for me and has been something of a second mother to me, however she is a bit racist. When I was a kid she'd complain about all the coloured people coming into the country and how she wouldn't mind if it was white people. Funnily enough nowadays she complains about the (white) eastern Europeans coming into the country.

Anyway, one night she was talking about it and I replied to her "I am in the military. If I am under fire and my position is about to be overrun and some guys come and save me believe me I don't care if they are black, white, yellow or paint themselves bright effing pink."

I generally do not understand racism (ok, I have to quantify that by pointing out that through personal experience there are people from some places that I have had issues with). I like to take people how I find them, not from the colour of their skin or religion (although again there, you have some religions I object to more than others based on personal experience. It surprises many people that one of the religions I have the most conflict with is Buddism), and I'd much rather take people as I find them than take skin colour as a guide.

There are still good people in the world who fight the good fight. I have faith in that.
You have to look on the good side and not be vindictive.
I know -I struggle with that all the time. I tend to blame s**t on Republicans...but that don't work. It's insane. It doesn't help. It just flames fires.
For someone who is an atheist- and don't have a God to fall back on, I am putting my faith in human kindness.
