So this is actually a documentary I saw I'd say within the last five years, probably on Netflix. It follows these two guys who have been making independent sci fi and horror b movies from the 80's, and I think part of the film they are re-making one of their own movies about an alien who crash lands in a back yard (or talk about re making it). I do remember specifically they are filming a horror movie in a rented warehouse on weekends and all the set backs they face (I think an alarm gets triggered at one point and they can't reach the owner, etc). The main guy who founded their film company gets diagnosed with cancer (brain cancer maybe?) and passes away before they have the first screening of their latest movie. There is a very touching scene where he passes on all his movie equipment to his partner - at least that's how I remember it. It was the b movie version of "Lost in La Mancha" and I would love to find it again. Thanks!

Sounds like "Blood, Boobs & Beast," the story of no budget legend Don Dohler (of "Night Beast" and "Galaxy Invader" fame):
