To say this was a character-driven series doesn't put it right; this was an actor-fueled exercise in how what is being said and how it is being said can overshadow everything else on screen. The plot about an apparent ritual  slaying in a Louisiana sugarcane field was intresting though uneven, stretched a little, and it curved here and there across some detours that felt like time-wasters, but what made it all work was its two lead actors delivering what could go down as the performances of their careers. I'd give it an A-.
