80s sci-fi horror

Does anyone know the name of a movie from the 80s that had a scene where a clown was hiding on the ceiling of an elevator. I remember something about aliens and some sort of eggs in a white room in other scenes of the movie. I thought it was Xtro(1982), but I am not certain.

Man, just the box cover of XTRO scared the dickens out of me as a kid. Thank you again to whoever pointed out that XTRO had a nude Maryam D'Abo in it!
