I haven't had time for movies in a while, but when I finished grading the massive stack of papers I brought home over the long weekend, I decided it was time to celebrate with a Netflix B-movie.  This one popped up in my feed and looked interesting, so I took a chance on it and I am glad I did!

A lonely loser named Chris is walking home from his dead-end job when he finds an invitation to a Halloween Night "murder party."  So he dresses up in cardboard armor as a knight, and walks across town to the abandoned warehouse where the party is to be held.  But when he arrives, he discovers that A. The titular "murder" in Murder Party is, in fact, real, and B. That HE is the proposed victim!

Turns out a group of needy art students desperate to procure a grant from a rich donor named Alexander have decided to stage a live murder for the sake of art.  They are debating the best way to kill Chris when Alexander shows up with his Russian drug dealer in tow, and hilarity, gore, and mayhem ensue.  This is one of the more effective horror/comedy movies I have seen in a while, and I laughed out loud in more than one spot.  Remniscent of TUCKER AND DALE VS. EVIL in its tongue-in-cheek cleverness.  Definitely worth watching!   4/5
