QuoteThis is the moment a foolhardy leopard attacks not one but two porcupines - and is left to rue the painful consequences.

Footage filmed in South Africa's Kruger National Park shows the big cat stalk the pair of spiny rodents before pouncing.

He is repelled by the first porcupine's quills and then, apparently not having learnt his lesson, throws himself at his first target's pricky pal.

After a brief tussle, the leopard is left festooned with quills and has to spend several painful minutes yanking them out of his flesh using his teeth.

The lesson here appears to be: mess with a porcupine at your peril!
Hail to thyself
For I am my own master
I am my own god
I require no shepherd
For I am no sheep.

One forgets that porcupines are found in other places besides North America. If one could poll African animals, the African porcupine would probably be one of those who is most feared. Here we have proof that it can defeat a leopard. It is also been known to defeat the African lion.

So have my undies
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.
