Like all anthology films, it's a spotty. Which was your favorite? (I liked the opening, the Tom Waits one, and the closing).

 I'm with you there in liking those tales most, but the opening story was overall the best. I couldn't believe how good the show was and that I hadn't heard of it.

It's an anthology movie with about six stories, all directed by the Coen Brothers.

There's a movie from circa 1990 called Grim Prairie Tales that also anthologizes strange tales set in the Old West but it's not nearly as good despite having James Earl Jones as a storytelling bounty hunter.

I generally love the Coen Brothers, so I will check it out.
