People make fun of 1970s disaster flicks like this, but you know, I kind of enjoyed The Poseidon Adventure myself.

I saw this at the theater back in the day. We called it the 'Upsidedown Adventure'.

THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE is a classic; it's also cheezee.  How many films do you get to see RODDY McDOWALL fall down a smokestack?

CAROLE LYNLEY just died.   :bluesad:  So many wonderful performers in a popcorn movie movie.

The first time I saw The Poseidon Adventure, I was quite young, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. The second time, years later, I could see what a B-grade bit of nonsense it was, but it was still pretty entertaining. Many undeserved deaths (and a few deserved) result in Gene Hackman's priest character sacrificing himself to try to save those who are left, while giving God what-for in his death speech. Kind of awesome, actually.

Mad Magazine called it "The Poopside Down Adventure"

They got the last remaining crewmember off the ship. So while the ship and its cargo may be lost, there was no lost of life.

The book is good too. Has a lot more character development and is darker than the movie.

Oh... I should watch this movie again.  I have't seen this in a few decades, it's about time.  Plus, it has Roddy Mcdowall.  I don't know what it is, but I watch movies just because of Roddy Mcdowall.
This is my awesome signature.  Jealous?

Maureen O'Hara says Roddy McDowell was one of her closest friends, and he had a secret he kept his entire life and promised to tell her before he died, and so McDowell was sick in the hospital and agreed to tell her after a near-lifetime of her being curious, but he died just before she got there.

I kinda thought, ha, so you really wanted to know something and never will, eh? Now you know how you made my grandmother feel about you not telling what you whispered to John Wayne in The Quiet Man.  :bouncegiggle:

RODDY McDOWALL supposedly kept a dishy revealing diary which will not be published until he is dead... 100 years!  I have to suggest that any "secrets" revealed in that diary will not be very interesting by 2099...
