TCM Monster of the Month movies ~ GODZILLA  Each friday night in October, TCM will be showing GODZILLA movies !!!

First up Friday: GOJIRA (1954) 8pm EST... the greatest Kaiju of them all .  I believe they'll broadcast the Japanese original which is remarkably superior to the RAYMOND BURR chopped salad fed to American audiences for decades.  GOJIRA is to be followed by GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS (which is the 1956 Americanized chopped salad version).

It's on tonight 8pm EST Turner Classic Movies.  I've been looking forward to watching it tonight for weeks!    :teddyr:

The first movie is scary because you actually see people die! Plus it's dark and moody and Godzilla seems big, instead of just guys in rubber suits knocking down toy houses.
Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)
Interviewer-"Does Dracula ever end for you?
Lugosi-"No. Dracula-never ends."

Plus, unlike many of the GODZILLA movies of the 60's and 70's, Godzilla is a mean and intent on destroying Japan!  Don't get me wrong! I love films like DESTROY ALL MONSTERS  and TERROR OF MECHA-GODZILLA, but those are made for 12 year olds.  And no snot nose little brats running around!

I think the first GODZILLA was scary even with RAYMOND BURR!  Years after I'd seen that version I got to see GOJIRA.  My jaw dropped; you don't even get to see the monster well into the film... you hear his thunderous stomp for a long time.  It's the only giant monster movie that I LOVE.

Can you imagine him doing the jig in the first film?

It'n not even the same monster! Godzilla actually DIES!
He don't die in the later movies! He just wades into the sunset...like John Wayne on his horse...

Though those later ones are typically silly, I always enjoy GODZILLA.  He should jump for joy; he's the King!

I own all The Toho giant monster movies on vhs! I bought them for my son Eddie about 20 years ago. Mostly from the flea market. He watched them every day.    That and the Power Rangers.  :bluesad:
