The third movie in the Monsterverse and the last one released before Godzilla vs Kong.  Have my opinions on it changed?  No, not really.  But I may be able to talk about it more reasonably now.  If you look at my posts when this film came out, I was gushing over it.  Now let's try to be more civil.

Its still my favorite movie in this cinematic universe so far.  The big budget Godzilla film many thought we might never get.

What I noticed more about it one this recent re-watch was the use of music and sound.  The sound track for this film is really strong.  Especially how classic themes are worked into more moderen sounding songs.

Also, this is the most comic bookish looking film in the series so far.  Many scenes are dominated by a particular color palette.

There are a lot of Easter Eggs.  This was a movie made by a big Godzilla fan for Godzilla fans.   And I think that's why maybe it didn't do as well as it should have.  I went to see this movie with some friends, none of whom are really kaiju fans like me.  One said "It was good, but I think I would have liked it more if I got those references."  Unfortunately, even with these films,  Giant monsters/kaiju are still a somewhat niche film market in America.

This was the Godzilla film I always wanted.  Its one of the few movies I've seen multiple times in theaters.  I loved it.

At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

It's been playing on HBO a lot lately, and I've loved catching bits of it at every opportunity.  So many cool monsters!
All around great movie.
