I remember as a kid being bought a pair of trainers that I thought was expensive (£90 or so back in the '80s), and being afraid of wearing them in case something happened to them. Can't imagine how I'd feel if I paid that amount of cash for a pair of shoes. Although I'd also have the issue that I don't like the colours and wouldn't want to wear them.

I bought a pair of Shaq Steel trainers in 1988 and I wore them until they literally fell apart.
