I only found out today, but on February 13th Leiji Matsumoto, of Space Battleship Yamato and Galaxy Express 999 fame, passed away.
"Once you get past a certain threshold, everyone's problems are the same: fortifying your island and hiding the heat signature from your fusion reactor."

That's a shame. I actually liked what I saw of "Star Blazers" as it was called over here.
