i just got done watching the "super mario bros" movie... and it has to be the WORST big screen video game adaption to date. if you're looking for a painful experience, i highly recommend renting it (or buying it for $2 online like i did) :)

no mortal kombat 2 was worse, and wing commander was even worse than that, compared to those 2 mario was a gem.

I went and saw it when it came out. I was a kid, but I could still tell it was horrible. The Mushroom Kingdom is a bright landscape filled with colorful scenery, not a distopian metropolis. And what was up with Luigi being the hero? Luigi is Mario's b***h and that's the way it's always been. There's a reason he was only playable with the second controller. That's the way they go with all video game movies- the story has abaolutely nothing to do with the game. Take Street Fighter. It was called Street Fighter because it was about fighting in the streets, not some weird third world UN knock-off peacekeeping mission. All I have to say about Resident Evil is that I remember it didn't take 50 minutes to run into a zombie.

Say what you will, I have fond memories of this film, largely due to it coming out when I was 8 years old and obsessed with Nintendo. Looking back, I can tell it's a bad, bad movie-- The plot is blatantly ripped off of Buckaroo Banzai (which is a pretty bizarre movie to rip off)-- but it's not a bad time-killer if you catch it on TV. Besides, where else will you see Dennis Hopper turn Mojo Nixon into a lizard man?

I agree with josh patrick.  "Mortal Kombat: Annihalation" was approaching painful, as was "Wing Commander".  However, I feel it appropriate to throw in "Double Dragon" and "Street Fighter" just for kicks.  All four are equally horrible.

  Ah, the Super Mario Bros. movie was pretty terrible and to make matters worse, it has John Leguizamo(Have you seen his standup? Worst EVER) as Luigi and he's also the main character too!  Still, I found Double Dagon(An extreme insult to one of my favorite games) and Resident Evil to be far worse.
