Ok NOT about the actual MST3K show but the "idea" of it. Watching movies and poking fun with commentary. This idea comes to me sometimes when i'm watching news or even the past olympics. I would love a channel (even if it was public access) that showed a variety of things from news, movies, tv reruns, heck even bible shows..etc and had commentary...which might also include some shows put together like those cheesy "Blind Date" shows where there are humerous graphics inserted into the scene. (sadly you probably have to have seen those late nite date shows to know the most entertaining thing isn't the lame guestss but the crew who edited the show with the sickly funny images and bubble-thoughts)

Am I sick or would this be a good idea? That would basically make ANYTHING fun to watch, nothing would be sacred. ;-)  I'd love to see what they could do with a typical CHiPS or Incredible Hulk episode. A new generation of golf fans would be born..with todays technology they could insert godzilla images into live tournaments! ok..maybe it's me

I know one thing, I'd watch that channel!

We've got one program in the UK that uses that idea, called 'Shock Video', where commentary runs over clips from tv shows around the world. Trouble is, 90% of the time they use it as an excuse to include bad porn, and to be fair, it dosent exactly take comic genius to mock porn. The voiceover for its trailer even includes the words 'the show with tits in, guaranteed', which is meant as an ironic joke at itself, but trouble is they've hit the nail on the head, and thats ALL the program is.

Nice idea, Susan. But, its dependant on the commentators, As Pete's example proves.Still, its a nice thought. I do a "Roll yer own" MST. 14 flicks so far! Tape your commentary along with a tape or dvd, and play back with queing. Works like a charm.
....Still, an MST party is a good idea. Just pick loons with the right imagination and sense of the absurd, and have fun.

Naturally you could have a bunch of different commentators on at various hours through the day, maybe assigning some to specific shows or program types that are good with that particular area. Then as it progresses through trial and error you can find the right group of people (it doesn't have to be 2 or 3 but even up to a large crew assigned to various shifts or shows) More can be done with shows since they're not live. Because I'm often the person who sits watching tv, news or what have you with all the remarks and wisecracks. In fact I used to have fun years ago watching a show or movie and turning the volume all the way down and ad libbing my own dialogue with a friend of mine. I think collecting people with the right wit and sense of humor is key for an idea like this, but also over time it's bound to come together and there would always be room for change. Some shows could have speaking commentary while others maybe more graphics and visual effects, and yet others just a running text ticker at the bottom or bubble captions. Possibilities...endless.

Heck, even have it so audience members can be a guest commentator if they live in the local area of the station. I want this idea so bad! So much crap on tv, it would make it easier to watch late at nite when nothing is on to watch something that makes you laugh by making fun of what you're watching. And when airing movies, instead of selecting b-movies to pick at, they can select popular hollywood films. Imagine improved spanish soap opera translations.

Oh, man I wish this could happen. But until that day, all I will have is my video collection, my DVD Collection, my TV and my own imagination.

You all by now know that I can be a little controversial but I have to admit that I HATE MST3K!  I've always hated it and could never understand why anyone liked it.  Believe me, I've given it several tries and I love b-movies but it is in my opinion ONE OF THE WORST SHOWS TO EVER  DEBUT ON TV!  I know that alot of you like it but I find it detestable.  The jokes they crack are some of the most horrible I've heard in my life.  I'd rather smoke crack and bang a crackwhore than watch that drivel.  That's my opinion which is usually taken with a grain of salt.  Oh well...............sue me

Flangepart

Sue you? Nah.....just drop you in the pit of the she b***h sans shotgun or chainsaw.
....No big. If it works for ya, fine, if not, fine too. So long as no one tries to force ya to watch it.
