It's funny how nothing interesting happens to me on a Saturday, especially when you have to take English Composition 1 and Basic Math Skills at Columbia College. However, on this Saturday it became an interesting day for me.

After my last class, I was walking down the street and heading down to the Metra Station (I commute, I am not too interested in driving down to Chicago). As I was walking down South Wabash I happened to see a small film crew on the other side. So with the curiosity that I always have, I decided to go and see what is going on. I asked one person and they told me that the crew is shooting sequences for the upcoming sequel to SPIDER-MAN. I happened to also see a group of college teens who were standing around with their own DVD's of SPIDER-MAN and, of all things, THE EVIL DEAD. It seems that director Sam Raimi was there as well and after shooting a few sequences he approached the small croud to sign autographs on their DVD's. Unfortunately, I didn't have my DVD of THE EVIL DEAD with me so an autograph was out of the question. However, Sam was nice enough to answer a few questions that I asked. Basically, I asked about how he feels about being in the mainstream and that is he still proud of THE EVIL DEAD. Sam's answer: Yes, he is still proud of THE EVIL DEAD and that he is glad that after getting his first start with the wild horror film he is also glad that it opened doors for him in the mainstream. I also asked him other questions (i.e. has he seen any of Peter Jackson's films-Sam said he saw some scenes from BRAINDEAD and was quite interested in the film, his Super 8 features-Sam still has IT'S MURDER! and WITHIN THE WOODS) and in the end he shook my hand.

You know, even though I don't have an autograph of Sam Raimi's name on a DVD or a piece of paper, I still am quite glad that I was able to meet the guy and ask him a few questions from an otherwise unexpected event. And he was very kind enough to take time-out and talk to us. This is the first time I have ever met a director up in person before and it was quite an experience.

All I can say is that Sam Raimi made my day, especially since this happened on a Saturday.

He was probably nice to you because you're not Bruce Campbell or his brother. :) The conflicting reports say they're either shooting an FX shot of Doc Ock or something for a teaser to put in front of Two Towers or Daredevil.

~I cried because I no shoes, until I met a man that had no feet. I killed him and made shoes out of his skin.~

Ash

I would've stink-palmed him!

Just kidding!

Wouldn't it be cool to tell your friends that you stink-palmed the director of "The Evil Dead" & "Spiderman"??!!

LOL!!

Luke B (aka Luke Bannon)

Oh lucky you! I am so envious! Now, I will admit it is mainly to do with the evil dead movies and Spiderman, but Sam Raimi is one of my fave directors, and I'm happy for you.
