Has anyone seen this movie yet? IMDB has given it pretty high score. I couldn't help but notice the plot seems alot like "fahrenheit 451", and I know that movie is being remade.  Is it a worthwhile see?

I saw it last week and LOVED IT!

J.R.

It's one of those ones that the guys at CHUD or Ain't It Cool absolutely whore whenever they get the chance (and even when they don't).  I enjoy hard science fiction, but to me this looks too much like several others like Fahrenheit 451, Minority Report and a few others, with Matrix style thrown in. And why, just out of curiosity, does seemingly every sci-fi story about a future society center on an enforcer of the rules who winds up on the wrong side of the law?

~I cried because I no shoes, until I met a man that had no feet. I killed him and made shoes out of his skin.~

Squishy

Tycho at Penny Arcade (try the comic! a bit gamer-centric, but...) may be a smug bastard, but he liked it too. It seems the critics all came to the same conclusion that J.R. did--it's hard not to see the almost proudly derivative nature of the trailer--but the few people who have seen it seem to have enjoyed it.

I'm just...I...if I see one more "bullet-time" sequence...I'm gonna SNAP.

One critic who panned "Equilibrium" was fixated on the fact that Bale's character, before realizing the Error of His Ways, executes a very large number of Thought Criminals; because of this, the critic found it impossible to sympathize with Bale later on. I guess Anakin Skywalker, Doug Quaid and Logan Five might be better able to understand Bale's situation...

Sorry It took me awhile to actually find this thread again..lol

For a movie that's gotten alot of praise i still haven't seem much about it, hell I think I only saw a preview on tv for it once and I still don't know if it's even playing around here anymore. I still want to see it tho, I love sci-fi and dark futuristic societies where one man struggles against the machine..lol. Yeah not all that original but I need some form of escapism. ;-)

I suspenct studios tend to peek at what eachother is doing scriptwise and when something like minority report comes out they all sort of follow suit with a same type of story but different hoping someone will cash in (since you never know if the "big" pic will bomb or be a hit and someone could ride their coattails or steal their wind) Whether it does well in theaters or not I bet it'll really rake it in when it hits video stores.

As for bullet-time yeah, so many films are copying it now. I think the Matrix showed that there is still so much undiscovered fronteir left as far as effects go, i just think that filmmakers should try more at tapping into that vs. copying
