Friday the 13th...what're they waiting for?

So I'm checking a few websites for horror boxed sets and it occurs to me that while there is a box set for Nightmare on Elm Street, The Omen, and yes, even Sleepaway Camp, there is no box set for Friday the 13th.

For horror folks, this is a travesty! I'm sure the shifting of companies from Paramount to New Line Cinema has something to do with the delay, but it's not fair to have to wait this long.

Sure, there are a few to pick from (at inflated prices) but they have no extras other than trailers. What about the extra scenes that had to be added in for television runs?Director's cuts (no pun intended) of Parts 1-4 would not be a bad idea, methinks.

Also, since the Nightmare on Elm Street box set has 3-d glasses for "Freddy's Dead", why not have a copy of Friday the 13th part 3 in 3D as well? With all the camera angles of juggling, popcorn popping and stoners handing joints to the audience, this one is crying for a better treatment.

Just random thoughts....

yeah i'd buy a boxset probably if it was at a decent price. i bought the first one and payed a whopping £20 (about $33) for it.... then decided it wasn't half as good as i thought. it's only worth watching for the great twist at the end (and by that time you'd give almost anything to see that irritating little b***h get smoked). i think it started getting interesting mid-series when the scripwriters thought f**k it all and introduced the psychic girl and whatnot. when are people gonna learn that you gotta abandon all logic to make a s**t horror film a great s**t horror film :o) troma knows i suppose.

I will say this, paramount never really gave a s**t about the Friday the !3th franchise," someone please let them know that it is the highest grossing Horror series of all time", and I doubt that  New Line cares much either.  In my opinion the bastards deserve punishment, exspect little from high profile studios when it comes to real Horror films, they could'nt care less, and I hate them for it!

The Friday the 13th dvds I have seen in stores are just poor.
You usually get the film, a trailer, and thats all.

I agree with the above poster, the studio never really seemed to care for Ft13th...but they did seem to enjoy the money it grossed.

BTW, that Nightmare on Elm Street boxset suffers from a severe case of being overpriced everywhere I have found it.

I've often wondered this myself, a boxset would be beyond cool.

Also, how about a behind the scenes specil. I mean, Elm Steert fans have it good, they get a box set, 3-D glasses, a TV show on video, and a making-of specil.

But Friday fans get nothin'....

What can I say that hasn't already been said..

Which pretty much holds true until you hit 9 & 10 which are very nice DVD's.

The biggest problem I see with F13 as a boxed set is that you seem to have fans of the first 4, which are more traditional slasher films and then you have fans of 7 - 10 which seem to be more of a supernatural bent and each became more over the top. I'm a big fan of the last 4, but find the first few to be tepid.

Paramount cares next to nothing about the bonus craze sweeping through the DVD arena.  Unless the director of the movie voices an interest, they extend no effort to goose up a release.

They also have gone on record stating that they do not recognize fan request letters, etc.  So don't waste your time.

I doubt that a Friday box will be forth coming anytime soon, and if it does, it will be devided evenly between the first four and the second four.

I saw the first one and that was it, as far as i'm concerned I don't know why the series has lasted as long as it has, but then I've never really been a fan of slasher flicks in general. It's the most one dimentional story ever. Psycho kills, the end. 20 or thirty of those later and I'm like... okay... so? Ooooo supernatural psycho killer... in space... yawn. Ghost stories can be unique to the type of haunting and the case of the disturbance. Supernatural creatures can each have unique attributes and weaknesses like anti-superheros. Slashers................... what.................. weapon of choice? I have donned my flame resistant suit... fire at will. :-)

they have released up to film 8 so far in NZ, but they only have trailers

the only 13th movie i havent seen is the 2nd one, where he has a bag over his head, ive heard good things about it, but at $50 for only a trailer and possibly not digitally remastered, i think ill wait till it comes down to $39.95 on special or something.

I have movie 4 and 10 on DVD, good movie, Corey Feldman is why i bought it ;) I would like to get them all, but i dont have that kind of money, but when Jason Goes To Hell comes out in NZ, i will buy that for sure, saw the cut version on TV, bloody awesome, so the uncut must be even better

Columbia House apparently assembled their own Box Set if that counts, I copied the below:

Special Features
Sound: Dolby, Dolby Digital, Stereo, Surround
Other Features: Widescreen, Enhanced, Trailer
About this DVD
Release Year: 1980
Studio: Club Assembled Set
Running Time: 12:14

Put on your hockey mask and get the first eight Friday the 13th thrillers in one spine-tingling set! See the indestructible Jason Vorhees terrorize unsuspecting teenagers, from the first horror classic, set at the infamous Camp Crystal Lake, to Jason’s rampage through Manhattan!

Looks neat, but I haven't bought it because they want $159.95 + shipping, although I suppose that could be cheaper than buying them individually off Amazon. Off the Internet I haven't seen any locally except the first one (bought it for $9.95).

Paramount has a way of screwing up movies with their low grade DVD qualities. Like the DVD of Prophecy! No extras! And Jason takes Manhattan is the same way!
