I love Family Guy, even though I admit a lot of what you say about the show is true.  Maybe that's why I love it so.   Though it must be said that I care very little about the quality of animation so long as the show is funny.   Which was my main problem with FUTURAMA.

From what I remember about the Tick, it probably would be fine outside of Adult Swim--that is, it was more of a kids' show that also had an adult following.

Everyone has their different tastes. I hated "Family Guy" from the start, and love "Futurama"--more for the writing than the animation. (It's getting great ratings on Cartoon Network, where it has a stable timeslot, so it won't be leaving anytime soon.)

My main beef with "Family Guy" was that trying to "be offensive" was the only thing it had going for it; the character motivations made no sense whatsoever. I mean, you can still follow the bizarre "logic" of Homer Simpson or Officer Barbrady on some level; on the other hand, the main character of "Family Guy" was planning to drop spiked weights from a blimp onto people's heads--as a form of apology to his wife. (Why?? Um...no reason.) After coherence flew out the window, it was all pee and fart gags, juvenile sex jokes, and tee-hee-hee-I'm-being-SO-"politically-incorrect!" I mean, sure, "Simpsons" and "Park" have that, too--"Simpsons" has even turned Maggie into a killer baby in memory of Stewie--but they have so much more, which is why they're still on. (Unlike "Futurama," "Guy" got a second chance and better support from FOX, and still drove the audience away.)

I wish "The Oblongs" had a chance to grow before it got the axe at The WB...it had great potential. The WB does such a wonderful job of destroying everything that crosses its path; why is it still on the air?
