Just seen GHOST SHIPS OF THE BLIND DEAD (1975) which is my favorite title of this BLIND DEAD 3 film. The one I bought from Brentwood is retitled ZOMBIE FLESH EATER.

Anyway this film is by the same director as the other BLIND DEAD films. Amando de Ossorio gives us the same fantastic Templars Knights. They are possibly even better in this film because it takes place on a ghost ship in the fog. Ossorio should have made money off of merchandizing these guys. Great Zombie look.  You have to see the ending when the walk upon the beach from the sea. Awesome.

The film starts off which these fashion models doing a pubicity stunt out at sea and they end up on a ghost ship. You'll also like the professor in this film. The Ghost ship looks like a model in a cup of water and when the women are out at sea the water is almost completely still. Watch for the burning cross scene involving the professor. Neat film. I know you will all like this one. Its in Brentwoods "Horror Rises from be Grave" package.

if the dead are blind how do they see the living they want to eat?

Scott

They can hear them. If a victim moves they can be found by the Blind Dead.

This is probably my least favorite, just because the Blind Dead look so much cooler on their phantom horses.  Here they have to go on foot, though I like the end where they look like they're in a football huddle.

I like the fourth, Night of the Seagulls....very spooky atmosphere.

Scott

I agree with you jmc the original TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD with the blind dead on horseback is the best no doubt. I'd also like to see NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS. I like the name of that title. What I wanted to say is that I like the actual title of GHOST SHIPS OF THE BLIND DEAD better than the title of ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS.

The football huddle is the very last image, but you have to like them walking on the beach or the deck of the ship. How about the blond who gets dragged down into the hull of the ship. Well done I thought.

When they were dropped overboard and sink to the bottom of the ocean in their coffins, I thought they were going to show you them coming out of the coffins at the bottom of the ocean and maybe walking the ocean floor, but it didn't happen. That would have been interesting.

I've had horror of the zombies for a long time on the old super video big box release. None of the blind films are a let down really. I'd say night of the seagulls is the slowest paced although. Brentwood is coming out with another 10 movie dvd set called Deadtime Stories (funny how they use movie titles) that has this movie, horror rises from the tomb, and night of the seagulls-(I think) to name a few. Whats odd about horror of the zombies is that the makeup/effects and scenery are awesome while the movie features scenes of a toy boat getting lit on fire by a zippo lighter. I like the idea that the Templars are being controlled by that cool ooking satanic skull with the glowing red eyes. The beach scene at the end is awesome too I agree.

Scott

Yea, the skull was neat. Thanks for the info on NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS StatCat.

Dunners

is this series a comedy or horror? sounds really goofy to me

I agree with statcat's assesment of "...seagulls"

Scott

Dunners the film TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD is one of the best ever zombie movies with something extra. They are dead Templar Knights that had their eyes put out when they were living. It's a horror film and the only comedy you might find would be that of a B-movie nature.

The film rates up their with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and ZOMBIE.

I think NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS is also known as NIGHT OF THE DEATH CULT.  I have a dubbed copy--I think it has German subtitles.  Either that, or it's in German with English subtitles...I don't remember, and it's been a while since I've watched it.

The first is definitely the best to start with--the movies aren't really connected other than they all have the Templar Knights, but it's probably the best made.

I think the BLIND DEAD are as good as Fulci's stuff, but not quite on a par with NOTLD.  But it's really an unfair comparison, because the Blind Dead films are quite a bit different in subject matter and setting--they're more about ghostly vengance.  They're almost a genre all their own.  BTW, does anyone else think Peter Jackson's wraiths look quite a bit like the Blind Dead?

Scott

Well said jmc. The Templars of the Blind Dead are unique.

I forgot to mention I remember reading that the set also includes another Ossorio film Malenka which I think is vampire related. Paul Naschy even mentions Ossorio in his autobiography in one part. Think I remember it was about how he felt that horror films usually weren't successful in Spain.
