Once again Burgo, you have a spin off.

What movies did you really have no desire to see and than when it happened as these things do, you enjoyed them.

Here are mine.

Shanghai Noon.... Made me into a Jackie Chan fan, very well done, its a shame that Shanghai Knights was not nearly as fun.

Kiss of the Dragon... Made me into a huge Jet Li fan, who as far as I can tell is the greatest martial artist around today. I now own 2 of his movies!

13 Ghosts and Resident Evil... I didnt think either of these would be fun or enjoyable based on the crappy previes, while neither was scary, I enjoyed them both.

3 Kings..... George Clooney + Ice Cube + Mark Wahlberg = surprisingly good movie.

Dogma... Hey Im a religion major and I like it.

School Ties... the only good acting from Chris O'Donnell, Brendan Fraser, and Matt Damon ever (Ben Affleck is in it too)

The Thomas Crowne Affair... it was great fun despite the fact I didnt have any intentions of ever seeing it.

Any others????

The Burgomaster

Surprisingly enough, I'd have to say that for many years I never had any desire to see either FIDDLER ON THE ROOF or THE SOUND OF MUSIC. However, the glory of DVDs made me change my mind and I bought both of them. They are both great movies and I recommend them to everyone. It doesn't matter whether or not you like musicals. They are still great movies.

There. I said it. And I'm not ashamed.

City Slickers.  I did not like ¡Three Amigos! and I did not care to repeat, at premium admission prices, what I thought from the previews would be the same pointless exercise.  But my wife talked me into it.  Score one for her.

Drop Dead Gorgeous.  Score another one for my wife, but I probably liked this one better than I should have.  Felt at home in this dark side of Lake Woebegon.  Unlike other recent critically popular mockumentaries (e.g. Best in Show), this one's eccentric characters didn't instantly get on and stay on my nerves.

And score yet one more for my wife.  (Hey, its a trifecta!)  When I was first dating her, she told me about this really good splatter movie (her catagorization) that she saw in her home country.  The more she tried to tell me how good it was, the more I scoffed.  But then I finally saw this gutsy little movie called Bad Taste.

(Lest you think my wife can pick 'em, those three have been the exceptions rather than the rule.  They were a nice three exceptions, though.  Not that often being wrong can be a pleasant experience.)

The remake of House on Haunted Hill.  Lots more fun than I was expecting.  However, the companion remake of 13 Ghosts didn't hook me.  To be fair, I had very low expectations for the former and unfortunately high expectations for the latter.

I must agree with Burgomaster, Fiddler On The Roof is a guilty pleasure flick for me.  Great little film that I watched while still in school.

Harry Potter-My wife kept telling me how good of a flick it was, and I kept trying to avoid renting it.  Finally I gave in, and it turned out to be a fantastic fantasy film, one of the best I have seen in quite a while.

13 Ghosts-Like Apostic, my wife generally makes good decisions when it comes to films.  She dragged me to see 13 Ghosts, despite my efforts not to see it (I hated House On Haunted Hill).  Actually was a pretty good flick, if you could turn off any truly functioning part of your brain for an hour and a half and just enjoy.

Vermin Boy

I saw House of 1000 Corpses last night, and I thought it was way more fun than the critics give it credit for (though I can't really say I had no intention to see it-- I was actually the one who talked my friends into seeing it, but I thought it would suck).

Fight Club caught me totally off guard-- I thought it was going to be a dumb Bloodsport ripoff, and only saw it because my friend's brother rented it. Turned out to be one of the coolest movies to come out of Hollywood in years.

Oh, and Evan-- School Ties was filmed in Gardner, MA, which is practically my home town (I live one town over, but I need to go to Gardner to do anything at all). I definitely have to rent it one of these days...
