Brother Ragnarok

Over the weekend I bought a copy of the Brainiac DVD from Beverly Wilshire Filmworks.  Now, I know this company isn't renowned for high-end productions, but I just put the DVD in to watch it, and although the case and DVD itself both have the Brainiac titles and pictures on them, the movie on the damn thing is some homemade SOV piece of s**t called Natural Born Stalker.  I couldn't even enjoy slandering this movie because the damn thing has barely any sound and what's there is overtaken by hissing and feedback!
Anyone else have this problem?

Some background info I found on Google--it won't help Brother R at all, but for those of us "out of the loop:"

QuoteIn 2000, a company called Beverly Wilshire Filmworks began issuing a series of DVDs featuring English-dubbed versions of early Mexican horror films. The company was releasing the films of the K. Gordon Murray horror series of the mid 1960s. Soon after they began releasing the films, the Beverly Wilshire Filmworks company went out of business -- unfortunately before they had released the entire K. Gordon Murray collection. However, they did release 14 of these classic films -- and SantoStreet.com was fortunate enough to find a few of these original DVDs.

There's an alternative version of "Brainiac" available from Something Weird Video.

The people who made "Natural Born Stalker" seem to have been out of it for a long time; their web sites are all deader'n hell and "NBS" isn't even listed on the IMDB.

From the Google cache of Shadowman Entertainment's site (all that remains of it):

"Film Industry awaits 'Natural Born Stalker!' Sex is the foreplay to murder?  Enter the world of  Frank Saunders, the title character of Kelli Lidell's 'Natural Born Stalker' as he tracks with mounting frenzy the lone witness to his crime.  Explore the mind of a born predator as he lurks in the shadows and tracks his prey through the deceptively wholesome streets of a town near you."

Blaugh. Bizarrely, the IMDB does have a listing for Kelli Lidell's three minor Hollywood jobs--location manager, assistant director, and cartoon voice.

That is bizarre. Sounds like a production error. I own the Brainiac DVD and let me assure it still sucks. The picture quality is virtually identical to the VHS and it actually has breaks in the film where the reels would change. Not kidding. It dipped to black and static for about 5 seconds between chapters. No wonder they went out business so quickly.

i have a few of thier dvds. I think I  have like two martials arts flicks they tossed out and teenage zombies. they always have really bad looking menus and poor video quality. It may be the movie, but the transfer of teenage zombies had a hole in it or something because there is two little black circles near the top of the screen that stay there the whole movie.

I have this DVD and it does not look that bad.  Not what you would expect of DVD quality, but better than any of the VHS versions I have seen.  It does sound like a goof caused you to get the other movie.

If Something Weird were to put out a DVD I would definitely buy it.  They have been doing a pretty good job.  Just look at the treatment that any number of silly little films received.

I bought the NUDE ON THE MOON DVD from Something Weird a few months ago. The damned DVD was blank!

Other than that, I love Something Weird's releases . . . except that they are not letterboxed.

Call me old fashioned but when I pick up a DVD I expect the picture quality to be somewhat better than the video version. This was exactly the same. Actually, because of the breaks in the movie its worse.

But if Something Weird came out with a Brainiac DVD I would snatch it up in a heartbeat. I know they do DVD-Rs but I've always had problems with most of those. Considering the quality of K Gordon Murray movies they've started offering (having bought a couple myself) I actually wonder how good their Brainiac print is.

Oops, I thought that it was a link to a VHS version.

Looks like I will put that on my shopping list for June 24th.

June 24th is my birthday so now you know what to get me, Andrew. :)

From what I hear Something Weird Video has THE BRANIAC on their upcoming DVD releases. Now, don't ask me when it will be because I don't know yet. But when news comes through, I will inform you all.

In the meantime, Something Weird Video has it on VHS taken from a pristine 35mm print. But, I do suggest that you wait until it hits on Something Weird Video/Image Entertainment DVD. The quality will be a bit better and a worthwhile addition to your K. Gordon Murray wacky Mexican import collection.
