Am I the only person who has long wished (or long longed if you will) for a Major Motion Picture about Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington and his Black Sheep Squadron? Sadly, I think the classically bad T.V. series Baa Baa Black Sheep (later changed to just Black Sheep Squadron) may have dissuaded ANYONE from ever attempting a feature film about the subject matter. BOY, that show sucked, didn't it? It was basically "CHiPs goes to World War II", especially after the arrival of "Pappy's Lambs" (Rot in Hell, Fred Silverman!).
In the late 80's to early 90's I always thought Mel Gibson would be ideal for the role of "Pappy"but now he's too old.  I think someone could sell him on producing or directing the venture, though.
Anyway, I think Pappy is an unjustly forgotten American Hero and since I even loved him as a hero figure in my teens I LOATHED what that wretched television series did to his memory.
I'm just geeky enough to think the Corsair single-engine fighters that the Black Sheep Squadron flew are among the COOLEST things I've ever seen, too.

FWIW - I watched that show as a kid and really liked it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to p**s on a show some of you may have liked. I DO have to admit the show had some good episodes (I especially enjoyed the pilot film FLYING MISFITS and the episodes about The Iceman and the one about the Black Sheep having to overpower the Japanese soldiers who have seized their island base) but I was probably carrying too much historical baggage about the REAL story of Pappy and Co with me when I watched the show in the 70's. The difference between the wonderful but forgotten real story of the man and his squadron and the TV show flash of the series just got on my nerves is all.
But hey, remember Peter Frampton's guest-starring role in one episode?

Nope...I saw it as a kid and remember very little, other than that I liked it...so take my opinion with a huge salt lick

The thing is,the"sexual fantasy"thread worked on another message board I used to hang out in.I got,like,25 posts of guys and girls telling me their sexual fantasies.

Of all places, The History Channel often airs reruns of the show with the typically HILARIOUS stuffy history experts making ponderous remarks on the "truth vs fiction" aspects of the show. (Like we NEED a PhD telling us there weren't REALLY buxom nurses like Brianne Leary on hand to tend to the Black Sheep Squadron's various ...uh, medical needs.)
Sadly, they seem to show every episode but the Peter Frampton one. That one was TRULY one for the T.V. Turkey Time Capsule. Try to picture Britney Spears starring as a Heroic WW II WAC and I think you'll get the feel of that particular show.

I'd volunteer to go first, but I don't want to give anyone nightmares... :)

It was a fun show, but then I also watched The Dukes of Hazzard.  I was disappointed to find out those weren't real Zeros though.
