Aparently, director Al Passeri was quite impressed with the theatrical release of his film PLANKTON (1994; international title: CREATURES FROM THE ABYSS) in Italy that in 2000 he made THE MUMMY THEME PARK. I haven't seen it, but I am told that is quite different and parody's itself unlike PLANKTON did.

Anybody hear of it?

I thought you were talking about Universal Studios opening up a Mummy movie attraction for a minute there.  No, I haven't heard of it.

Its bound to be pretty bad just judging by creatures from the abyss and how doped out and unaware this guy seems like a certain few other Italian bad movie directors. Creatures was utterly hilarious so I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Well, I liked CREATURES FROM THE ABYSS primarily due to it being a fun ride. As a film that was meant to be serious, at least according to Passeri's intentions, it fails due to the below average dubbing (God what I would give to hear it in it's far superior Italian language track). Passeri also shows his influence of horror films as CREATURES FROM THE ABYSS was definately inspired by THE THING (1982) and THE EVIL DEAD (1982). The effects work was quite good too as they certainly got their money's worth with the $200,000 budget.

Now with THE MUMMY THEME PARK, I have heard that it does parody itself as tounge-in-cheek rather than serious, and Passeri throws some fun homages to THE TERMINATOR as some ancient mummies are turned into mechanical cyborgs.

And recently, Shriek Show announced that they are releasing CREATURES FROM THE ABYSS again on DVD under the original title PLANKTON. I do hope that it contains the Italian track and a better interview with Passeri. And I hope Shriek Show aquires THE MUMMY THEME PARK, I am dying to see it.
