Encore Western Channel just showed speagetti western A REASON TO LIVE/ TO DIE (1972) starring James Coburn, Telly Savalas, Bud Spencer. The film is kinda a DIRTY DOZEN type film set during the Civil War. Jame Coburn's character must take this fortress with the help of 6 or 7 comdemed men. They were about to be hung with the bags over their heads when Coburns character  and the Commander ask the men if they want to join him in this suicide type mission to take the fortress. Of coarse they all say yes, except one who is then hung. The fortress must be in reality in Spain. It's a beautiful fortress on a mountain. Nothing resembling the American Civil War by the way. The film is also a GUNS OF NAVARONE type film.

James Coburn is becoming on of my favorite actors. Did I mention they have lots of dynamite in this film? Well they do at the end along with a Gatling Gun. The film isn't as well excecuted as it could have been and the story isn't very original, but its not bad either. I'd give it a 4 out of 10.

That ending sounds a bit like The Wild Bunch.

Coburn is good
