Die Another Day....Bad or Good?

I'm sure this one was discussed when it was released theatrically but now that it's on DVD I thought I'd bring it up again.

I had high expectations of this one but was very disappointed.

It had some individual great scenes but overall much of it was quite boring.

I watched it with a group of 5 other friends on DVD and everyone in the room at one time or another said out loud "How long is this damn movie?" or "When is it gonna be over with?" and in most people's experience...that's a bad thing.

We even stopped the movie to look at the running time on the back of the box.

I felt that the whole "villain changing his face thing" was very contrived.

The laser scenes were very good especially with the giant one scorching the earth.

Nearly EVERYONE from friends, relatives to the guy behind the counter at the video shop that has seen it agrees with me.

Brosnan is my favorite as Bond but as far as his body of work thus far goes...nothing tops "Goldeneye" in my opinion.

What did you think?

Funk, E.

It needed a second round in the rewrite and editing departments. The material was there for a good bond film, but it didn't ever really come together quite right.

Dolph Lundgren

How about bad AND good?  I mean, like you said, the movie had its moments.  It seemed like more of a b-movie, IMO.  However, being a huge Bond and Brosnan fan, I liked it.  Sure, that could be bias on my part, but I liked it as escapist entertainment.  I'm willing to bet that a lot of old school Bond purists won't like it.  Too much special effects, not enough spy work, etc.  But I went into it with an open mind, knowing full well how much of the movie would rely on special effects, and I liked it.  I really loved the car chase, and I agree, the laser scorching the earth was incredible to watch.  It definitely does not top Goldeneye (no other Bond movie does, IMO) but it's good in its own right.. just as long as you keep an open mind and don't watch it hell bent on realism.  Gustav Graves was OK as far as Bond villains go, but I really liked Zao for some reason.  He just looked cool.

Oh yeah, and was I the only one who thought that the other Bond girl (I forget her name in the movie, Miranda Frost, I think?) absolutely smoked Halle Berry?  Better looking, not as annoying, etc.

Just saw it last night and it wasn't great and it wasn't bad either. i think it had the potential to be a great movie but just wasn't tight enough overall. halle berry is beautiful but was kind of annoying as a bond girl and not even the bond girls of the 70's had retorts as lame as "yo mamma" that was an eye rolling and groan inducing moment.

Shop Smart. Shop S-Mart.

Halle Berry:  Poor bond girl, but very yummy.
Rest of movie:  Slayed my testicles for the devil.  Brosnan is the best of the fake Bonds (if you ask who the real one is I'll come to your house while you sleep and do bad things to you), and I would do just about anything for that car.  The only improvement that could be made is if the car was a Corvette.

I really liked it.  A Bond movie is a Bond movie to me.....You know what you're going to get.  Lots of action, hot babes in bikinis, cool looking cars, explosions, high-tech gadgets, ect.   I found it to be pretty on-par with "The World is Not Enough" and "Tomorrow Never Dies".

The only part I really despised was the obvious use of CGI during the waterfall sequence with Brosnan surfing on the piece of metal.   And I really didn't buy the fact that nobody could hear an invisible car sneaking up on them from 20 feet away.

The Burgomaster

I consider this to be a typical Bond film. I'd probably rank it around the middle of the pack as far as 007 movies go.

Okay, let's just get a few things straight, here...

Halle Berry = HOTTEST WOMAN ALIVE.  Well, maybe not quite, but pretty damn close.

Bond's car in this movie was an Aston Martin.  A BRITISH car.  Makes a strenge sort of sense, doesn't it?  A BRITISH agent having a BRITISH car?  Besides, Aston Martins look much cooler than corvettes...

However, in closing, this is my least favorite Pierce Brosnan bond.  Brosnan is my favorite Bond next to Connery (who just generally kicks ass), and this film was a great big dissapointment.  I don't mind the missing spywork so much as I ming the missing SOUL.  This film was empty, without spirit.  It was one mindless action sequence connected to another, and none of them were all that good.

To further seal my fate, I submit the following comment:

The ony thing more fake and irritating than the "surfing the tidal wave on a piece of metal with a racing paracute" scene was the four or five minutes leading up to it.  That giant space laser was the dumbest thing I'd seen in a long time, and it pretty much blew the movie for me.

My apologies to anyone who disagees - the preceeding was merely my personal opinion, no more or less valid than anyone else's.

Bad movie if you ask me. It had just too much action and too much running time. After a few minutes the whole thing started to feel boring. And the new things they added... CGI was one of the worst I have ever seen, the invisible car was far too much, and the slow-mo during action scenes quite annoying.

Looks to me that they didn't find the adequate rate between intimistic moments (this one is one of the few recent Bonds that tries to develop Bond as a character) and all-out action. Brosnan makes a good Bond, but the only Bond movie with him I really like is "The world is not enough".

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Great Sage

You are CORRECT, the movie dragged on without maintaining any interest.  The beginning of the movie set the tone â€" C’mon, how does James Bond get captured and tortured for 14 months?  That’s not Bond-like.  Furthermore, Bond looked like he put on some weight after those 14 months.

Grumpy Guy

Hey, yeah, I didn't think about that.  Arent most torturred prisioners a tad emaciated when releaced?

I luv dolma

I'd rather watch Mistress of Seduction over and over again. I fell asleep during that stupid Bond movie over and over again! Please don't make me watch it over and over again!
