I saw an episode of I think one of the 90's Outer Limits where this happened to William Shatner.
That doll looks creepy, the breasts are WAAAAAY too big (not a fan of large breasts myself anyway), and I don't even want to imagine how much one costs.  I want to imagine even less the sorry, lonely, frightening people out there who'd pay it.

One episode of Real Sex did a segment on them. There are also Japanese companies making them, and if I remember correctly, it said you could take the doll home and try it. All together now: "Eeeewwwwww".

Anyway, I believe the Japanese company said the target customers were people who work in isolated places (researchers at remote locations), people with injuries/deformities who might have trouble attracting a real partner etc. And then there's always the person who wants the unltimate toy.
