the Gate - DVD ?

if I'm not mistaken this movie is on sale at Walmart or Sam Gody.  I was going to buy it but something happened and I didn't .  :<

And that is a good question. It is already out on DVD, but from what I am told the cheapo DVD transfer is taken from the old Vestron Video release (possibly from Vestron's laserdisc). The last I remember hearing about who owns THE GATE was that MGM has it. However, don't quote me on that; I'm not too sure about it. However, MGM does own THE GATE II since it was obtained by TransWorld Entertainment (TWE)-Epic Holdings, which went to MGM shortly after the company closed down.

So if MGM has THE GATE, it would be nice if both films could be released on a 'Double Feature' DVD. But again, it's probably another crazy pipe dream that some of us have.

yeah that surprises me that MGM hasn't released it yet, with their whole line of vintage "midnight movies" and horror film releases. hell they rereleased Squirm but not the Gate? but hopefully we'll see a nice transfer of it onto dvd somewhere in the future.

Well I hate to say it, but I'm not very enthusiastic about MGM releasing THE GATE (that is, if they have it and if their are any plans to release it on DVD). Don't get me wrong, MGM has released some great titles on DVD remastered and uncut from original negative and vault materials. But my only concern with MGM is their lack of extras.

Take a look at the upcoming DVD Double Feature of GHOULIES (1985) and GHOULIES II (1987): both are in their widescreen 1.85:1 and only have a theatrical trailer as an extra. Now bad, but still a bit disappointing. For one, MGM could have gone out and done an audio commentary or video interview with Charlie Band as he has some interesting stuff to say about the film and his old Empire Pictures days. Also, MGM could have also gone way out and grab the 20 minutes of deleated scenes of GHOULIES that have made it on local TV releases! Alas, this is not to be.

With THE GATE, if MGM has plans I do hope they concentrate on some good extras. If not, their fine transfers will still do for now.

true, any print will do, but i don't see why they couldn't atleast get some extras for it. most of the people what were involved in making the film should still be around shouldn't they?
