How many times have you been watching TV and you see the exact same commercial repeated twice in a row...sometimes even three times during a single commercial break?

Why does this happen?

Are the programmers or people running the network falling asleep on the job?

Or do they sometimes do it on purpose?

Anyone?

I see it happen all the time.I think most of the commercials that get repeated several times in a row are sponsors of the tv show that is currently on.

I remember some networks doing it to balance out time slots but I could be wrong.

Depends, I'm on a local comedy show (late night on saturdays on the local fox channel) with some other people.  The board op that works during our show has done some pretty stupid things on the job.  A couple of times he's run the show up to ten minutes late, ran it without sound, he even left the tape running one night so after the credits finished it continued to play the random footage that was left on tape after the episode.

So it sounds like people not paying attention or that the ads are on a rotator and might just happen to air next to each other.

I so hate that. I remember back then commercials comes one time before a show and after the show or between. Time has change they go really crazy for people to see their spot three times straight just like the previews at the cinema.

Im convinced it's because A) most people have the attention span of a Goldfish with ADD, and B) People are idiots.

For what I understand, playing the same commercial back to back (to back...) is a mistake.  A simple human error.

Now, when you see the same commercial twice during the same commercial break, but there is another commercial seperating them, that might be because the sponsor (like Nick said) paid for a certain ammount of air time, and the station had trouble filling the request.

Sometimes it's done just to beat the message into your head.

Reptition is key to getting consumers to remember your product.
